Position Highlights
This position will support and provide back-up for the manager of the veterinary technical staff to ensure that student learning opportunities are staffed and prepped based upon instructional design and delivery as determined by Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated Veterinarian Faculty. This individual will partner with the manager of the veterinarian technical staff to set-up, maintain, and tear-down laboratory and other teaching stations as needed to deliver curricular content. This individual is responsible for working collaboratively with the manager of the veterinarian technical staff to assign technicians and animal care staff to stations to meet faculty needs and to serve as a liaison between staff and faculty to communicate any gaps that may be anticipated to arise in the process of student instruction. Collaborative engagement is a requirement with the intent to participate in constructive dialogue about lab needs, lab delivery, and safety concerns. This individual will contribute to purchasing/ordering and inventory as needed and will assist Course Veterinarian Faculty in managing the Pet Professor program by contributing to email communications, lab attendance reminders, vaccine status reminders.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the manager of the veterinary technical staff by initiating, maintaining, and enhancing communication between staff, faculty, and administrative support in the Clinical Skills curriculum and, by extension, other related core courses.
• Organize and lead the set-up for veterinary lab and/or other related student learning activities based upon the vision that Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated Veterinarian faculty wish to execute.
• Partner with Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated Veterinarian faculty to communicate challenges that may require flexing, adaptations, and/or other adjustments. Challenges may include, but are not limited to, anticipated safety concerns and perceived unnecessary risks, model use (and/or misuse), model unavailability, and limited staffing.
• In partnership with the manager, Course Coordinator(s), and Course Affiliated Veterinarian faculty,make edits and refinements to veterinary lab set up.
• Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of the Pet Professor program through the maintaining of proper paperwork and leading inspections as needed through lab spaces.
• Lead the housing, maintenance, building, and/or repairing models that are utilized in Clinical Skills coursework and related curricula year-round in support of year-round student instruction.
• Routine inspection of models to identify challenges in advance of teaching sessions that require their use as well as innovation to partner with Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated veterinarian faculty on new designs and requests for new builds.
• Maintain and store Model warranties, instructions, and manufacturer contact information, any communication (written or oral) between this individual and model manufacturers, including but not limited to quotes.
• Develop and maintain models and prepare supplies and equipment for other core course labs, as needed.
• Lead veterinary technician team members to execute the lab design based upon the vision that Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated Veterinarian Faculty have built into lab set-up sheets with the intent to deliver resources, models, and/or instruction in concert with the instructional team.
• Week-to-week preparation varies depending upon the anticipated content of each laboratory or classroom session; however, some weeks may require leading in the laboratory whereas other weeks may require a more passive role (e.g., set-up, behind-the-scenes oversight, and tear-down only). This individual may be tasked with cross training in other departments to provided additional support as needed.
• Maintain work spaces for student, staff, and faculty use by restocking rooms, maintaining models, repairing models, and participating in routine cleaning and maintenance protocols for core course spaces.
• Partnering with Course Coordinators and/or Course Affiliated Veterinarian faculty to offer, participate in, and/or host student teaching/training hours.
• Be heavily involved with scheduling student OSCEs and may be called upon, in concert with the other veterinary technical staff, to remediate and/or proctor students on skills training.
• Assisting with routine animal care at the CAC as needed, including but not limited to assisting the Lead Veterinarian and consulting veterinarians and/or Animal Care Managers and/or Animal Care staff with exams, obtaining biofluid samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces), running diagnostic tests, and administering treatments to patients.
• May provide anesthetic support and surgical assistance as part of the surgery and anesthesia course.
  Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, CVT required.
    
    
    Preferred Qualifications
    • 1 year teaching or otherwise participating in the instruction of veterinary, vet tech, or pre-veterinary (pre-health, animal science, etc) students.
